| Childhood is the beginning
opportunity for a lifelong pilgrimage
in Jesus Christ. Childhood is a time of
rapid growth in many areas. We desire
to weave the thread of spiritual growth
into the expanding fabric of a child's
unfolding world. Our task is to supplement
the family and it's primary role as chief
cultivator in a child's development.
Christ understood the dispositions of
children. When Jesus called children,
they gave Him their trust (Matthew 18);
when children were brought to Jesus, they
gave Him their love (Matthew 19); when
children were aware of His presence, they
gave Him their worship (Matthew 21). Jesus
wisely decided to reveal Himself in such
a manner that children could respond to
Him as children, free from undue pressure
or persuasion!
We desire to demonstrate to children
of all ages that a relationship with Jesus
Christ is not a remote option which can
be added into one's life at a later point
in time, but that it is an essential part
of even a very young person's life. We
want children to have the opportunity
to begin a spiritually abundant life at
an early age, to live daily in grateful
dependence upon the Lord God, and to learn
what it means to glorify God and enjoy
His presence forever.

Share the Love of Jesus
You are invited to share the love of Jesus with our
children. The Children’s Ministry is now recruiting
for the 2009-2010 year, to fill volunteer openings
for adults and youth on Sunday mornings (Nursery,
Sunday School, and Extended Session) and on
Wednesday evenings. Most commitments are for
one hour per month or on a rotating basis.
The Children’s Ministry provides its volunteers with
training, support, and appreciation all year long.

GOING and… “Growing in the knowledge of God”
Fifth graders! Come join our fun events on Route 56, the road from 5th to 6th Grade. We will be going and growing in the knowledge of God as we fellowship, study, and go out in our community to share the love of Christ. Look for the special Route 56 logo in your mailbox, email, and Grapevine so that you will not miss out on any of our exciting “road trips.” |
Our plans include local service projects/missions, bonding ‘seasonal’ parties with all 5th grader, and most important – time with God. These events will give an opportunity for our 5th graders to be the hands and feet of Christ to our church family and our community.
Our annual Christmas ‘Regressive’ dinner will be in December, and we will have many other fellowship opportunities in the fall and spring. You will not want to miss out as we travel down Route 56!
Wednesday
Advantage
First Presbyterian has opportunities for
Christian education available for all
ages on Wednesday nights. Wednesday Advantage
offers classes that explore a particular
topic over several class meetings. Classes
are open to both visitors and members.
All children grades 1-5 (both choir and Bible study children) need to stop by and sign-in for our weekly ‘Lunch Buddy’ drawing. The lucky person who’s name is drawn will not only receive a visit from a member of our Children’s Ministry Team during lunch time but also a lunch brought from their favorite fast food restaurant (with schools permission) and a special gift!!! What a GREAT treat!!!
Family Mission Opportunities through our Children’s Ministry:
In July 2010, many of our FPC Families are participating in a ‘family mission trip’ to Alaska through SEND, Int. We plan to work with and support our own FPC Family Members (Steven & Natalie Hall) who were called by God into the mission field several years ago. Our missions will include: Holding VBS for the AK native and missionary children and construction work with missionary housing. The AK Mission team will hold several fundraisers to financially support this mission. Some of the fundraisers include: Silent Auction, Garage Sale, Bake/Hotdog Sale, and Car Wash to be held on May 8th; parking for ‘Downtown Live’ on Thursday evenings during the summer, monogrammed candles, Liquid Highway coffee, and selling tickets for the Highland Games at Furman University (May 28 & 29). For more information on ways you can participate/support our Alaska Missions, please contact Karen King (672-1840 or kking@firstpresgreenville.org). Thank you for your prayers and support!
June 14-17 – from 9:00 – 12:00 - our 4th & 5th graders will participate in many off-site local mission projects through our VBS Day Missions. 4th & 5th graders need to meet in the Jr. High room at 9:00 am wearing work clothes and ready to take the ‘hands and feet’ of Jesus to our community.
For more information on ways you can participate/support our Alaska Missions or our VBS Day Missions, please contact Karen King (672-1840 or kking@firstpresgreenville.org). Thank you for your prayers and support! |
